Why it’s important to grow a strong personal brand, and how to do it
The professional landscape is becoming more competitive than ever. So how do you make sure you’re the one who stands out and gets hired? Or the one a company wants to invest in? Probably the best way to do that today is to build a strong personal brand.
In today’s digital age, personal branding is extremely important. Your personal brand is what sets you apart from the competition and makes you unforgettable.
Here are some tips on how to build a strong personal brand:
Invest in yourself
Those who invest in themselves by learning and mastering their craft will ultimately win in the next 2-4 years. What do I mean by this?
Instead of spending hours doing something that doesn’t benefit you, invest your time in learning and mastering your craft. What is something you do not know NOW, that you know for a fact the experts in your industry have already mastered?
The answer to that is what you need to focus on learning and mastering yourself.
Tip: Most skills can literally be mastered in 20 hours – especially if you’re in marketing.
Adding knowledge and skills to your arsenal will always pay dividends. And, once you mastered those certain skills, you can then talk about them. Which leads me to my next point.
Be the authority in your field
Be the authority in your field by talking about what you know. One of the best ways to do this is to teach. And new wave of “teaching” that is seriously catching on is podcasting. Don’t wait for the wave to die down, start your personal podcast now and use it to build your personal brand.
Not only will this help you build a personal brand, but it will also open up new opportunities for you that you never thought were possible. It will pay random dividends you won’t even see. Like networking, ability to speak with other leaders, share ideas, spark new ones, or even inspire others.
All of the above is ammo (content) that you can put on your website, podcast, youtube channel, social media, etc. And I promise IT WILL build over time as long as you continue to deliver value and stay consistent.
Remove yourself from the social status quo
I don’t mean remove yourself from social. I mean post content that will help you showcase your skills instead of following the trends of social (tik tok) that don’t benefit you and will mean nothing in 2-5 months from now. Views are great, but for the right reasons is the game to play.
I’m not saying don’t be on Tik Tok – use it as a personal branding tool. But, if you’re just doing the same dance routines that everyone else is doing, you’re not going to stand out. You’re not going to make an impact. And like I mentioned, it will not pay dividends in your future.
Instead, focus on creating content that will help you build your personal brand. Hint, hint, a 15 minutes podcast can create 10-15 mini pieces of content that can be shared via shorts.
Take advantage of the internet
It has never been easier to get access to value information and insights that can help you build a personal brand. Not to mention, it has never been easier to connect with people from around the world.
The internet provides a level playing field for everyone. No matter where you’re from or what your background is, anyone can be successful if they’re willing to put in the work.
There is an abundance of FREE, extremely useful information on anything you’d like to learn. Use your time wisely and take advantage of it. Instead of scrolling through social media for hours, why not use that time to learn something new that can help you build your personal brand?
Bottom line, personal branding is extremely important in today’s digital age. If you’re not investing in yourself and building a strong personal brand, you will be left behind. Use the tips above to get you started.
